Fitness advice: before you start that workout program

A few months ago, I was excitedly telling my brother about my workout routine when he asked if I had seen the doctor. My facial expression must have said a lot to him because he quickly rephrased his question, asking me if I visited the doctor before starting out my routine. He then went on to relate how his friend had slumped and died while jogging. It was said that he had an undetected health problem which was aggravated by intense workout.
I had heard that story before, and now I felt terribly guilty not only because I didn't see a doctor before embarking on my workout journey, but because I had developed severe back ache which intensified whenever I exercised, but I left it untreated. I finally went to see the doctor after the pep talk from my brother and fortunately for me, my pain wasn't related to my workout.

Being mentally prepared to start or continue a workout routine is pertinent to attaining your fitness goals. However, it isn't all there is. Making sure your body is ready for the changes you are about to put it through is equally important, and a good way to ensure this preparedness is by having a discussion with your doctor who would determine how much exercise is needed and let you know if there are certain health conditions you are prone to which can be exasperated through intense workout. He can also give advice on the best type of workout for you or refer you to a professional trainer.

Are you about to start a fitness routine or have you started one already but haven't made that all important visit to the doctor yet? Do not hesitate to do so immediately!

You'd see how great the discussion would turn out because whatever the outcome is, it keeps you on track in your bid to living a revitalised life.

What are your thoughts on this? Please share.

    1. Oh dear, you should endeavor to see a doctor before embarking on any workout program or trying a new meal plan. Some health problems won't reveal themselves except they're triggered by an intense workout and the effect could be disastrous...
