Top fitness trends for 2015: You won't believe what the number 1 trend is!

Last year, high-intensity interval training was the most favored fitness trend across the world, but this year it has lost its place to bodyweight training, my favourite trend.
Bodyweight training is top on the list of fitness trends this year because the exercises involved require no workout equipment. They can be done anywhere and this makes it a great pick for everyone keen on fitness. Let's checkout all the top trends for 2015!

1. Bodyweight training: Bodyweight training is my favourite workout regime for the same reasons it made number 1 trend this year. It is an economical and time-saving option because the moves can be done anywhere. It is also highly effective. Think about it, you can squat while you comb your hair (I do static squats for 1-5 minutes while watching TV). Plank while you're waiting for a quick meal to cook? Sure! Bodyweight exercises can transform your entire body, whether you're looking to lose weight or stay fit, all you need is the right information and we're right here to give you all the information you'll ever need.

2. High intensity interval training: HIIT workouts can usually be done under 30 minutes. They alternate between short but intense bursts of activity followed by periods of rest or low-intensity moves. High intensity interval training is great for weightloss as well as other fitness needs, but the exercises incorporated in some routines are usually not for beginners.

3. Online workout challenge: This is a trend new to many, but last year it got alot of attention and it'll even get more this year according to fitness professionals. A well planned online workout challenge usually has a particular target and participants get online support as well as all the tools they need. It gets better when it's free of charge and that's what our January workout challenge is all about. Have you signed up yet?

4. Educated fitness professionals/ personal trainer: Training or exercising under the supervision of a "certified" professional remains important to a lot of people because they're there to correct your form and motivate you. Also people are turning to fitness instructors to get exercises tailored to meet their needs. The downside of this is that it's usually expensive and we don't really have "certified" fitness trainers in this part of the world (Nigeria) since fitness itself is a trend that recently experienced a sudden burst of growth.

5. Strength/weight training: Strength training can be added to most workout routines to improve or maintain strength, but the benefits go beyond
strength. Weight training can help everything from your mood to your memory. Weightlifting helps burn fat faster as it builds your muscle mass.

6. Exercise and weight loss: It's not news that both regular exercising and healthy eating are major components for health and weightloss. For this reasons fitness and health experts will get more serious about nutrition this year. The exercise-diet link will experience growth this year, fitness profesionals predict.

7. Yoga: If you're one of those who think yoga is only about flexibility, you need to think again. The various variations of yoga including Power Yoga, Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Hatha, offer a wide range of benefits you probably didn't realize and this year this trend will still be a favourite for some people.

8. Fitness programs for older adults: With more studies about the benefits exercise can have as you age, specialized workouts for older individuals are on the rise. Fitness experts will be paying more attention to tailoring workout programs that will see to the needs of older people. It's a good thing that people are taking exercising seriously and they're beginning to realise it can be done at any age and ability.

9. Flashy/bright coloured workout clothes: Gone are the days people dressed in black and dull grey colours for their workout. Last year loads of fitness trainers favored bright coloured workout clothes and this trend will continue this year. I recently got a set of bright coloured workout clothes for my workout videos this year. Anybody want one?

What are your favourite fitness trend? Please share with us!

    1. Hi dear, please you need to speak to your doctor first... All the exercises in our January workout challenge are good, but you can substitute skipping for light cardio like walking...

    2. Please wait atleast 6 weeks before you try anything. Pregnancy affects the body in ways you can't understand. And please speak to you Gyn/Obs before you commence anything.
For now, you can just take short walks. And don't eat too much (but enough to satisfy hunger) and drink lots of water. Most women put on weight postpartum as most of the pregnancy weight is lost after childbirth.
Also, breastfeeding helps in losing weight.
Don't try anything drastic just eat healthy, drink lots of water and breastfeed. You'll see the results.
      I'm speaking from experience.
