Working out is one thing I look forward to each day. It's like eating, bathing or any other regular activity. In my final year in school, many people recognized me as the girl who always goes to the gym; Some arguing that I had been moved to the department of Human Kinetics, while a few who knew me well thought I had just gotten a new hobby and would soon tire out. I'm still on this never ending fitness journey and I'm loving it!
My major motivation are the challenges I face(d, strange though, but true. When I was on holidays, I'd have to wake up by 5:30am to go jogging when everyone is trying to readjust their blankets to shield the themselves from the extremely cold weather of Jos.
Then in school, I had to be at the gym by 8am and still get back in time to prepare for lectures and fight the urge to sleep in class. During my service year, I used videos on my laptop to workout but suddenly, the laptop stopped working.
I had a strong connection to those videos so I had to make a quick search on the internet using my phone to find a replacement and I stumbled upon Ifu's blog-Alas! another source of motivation. Then again, some mean fellows stole my phone.
I had had enough, I felt it was time to quit as I kept loosing my source of motivation, but my body wouldn't let me and my head kept telling me "You can't stop now, not after coming this far. How do you respond to those that foretold you'd quit?" So I put myself together and turned my bathroom to my personal gym where I put all I had learnt from my previous workout experience to practice and started working out again.
I've learnt alot of lessons and benefited a great deal throughout my workout journey and have a few of these I'd like to share.
I've built resilience, endurance and learnt discipline. I don't know how I kept up, but I always found a way to pull through.
I've made great friends at the gym, and on the road while jogging many of whom have inspired me and helped me to stay on track through this journey.
I have been able to learn a lot about myself, the things I can and can't do(I can't be a size 6, if I ever make it to that size, I'd look terribly sick so I'd stick to my curves).
Exercising often provides great relief from my menstrual cramps(trust me, my cramps are terrible), plus my sleep has been improved.
I'm more flexible and can now dance better(oh how I do love to dance!)
To many of my friends, I'm now a reference point and a source of motivation to acheiving their fitness goals.
If my body could talk, I know it would have accolades but my curves and edges already say enough!
Are you finding it difficult to start or continue your workout journey? Try getting the right motivation.
Are you a workout freak? Did you recently embark on a workout program? What has kept you going? Please share.
