REASONS WHY YOU HARDLY LOSE WEIGHT
"Good morning, i got your link online this morning, please how can i loss weight, i hate my self the way i am but i keep on hoping to loss weight someday. have tried so many pills but not working out. what can i do to come back to my slim sexy girl? moreover people say it normal but i don't like it at all. will be so much glad to read back from you. "
A blog reader sent me the above message over a week ago, I've since replied her, but I'm sharing it with you so that I'd use this opportunity to address the issue of obesity or being overweight.
First of all, hating yourself for being overweight is just wrong. You have to love yourself, love yourself enough to want to make certain lifestyle changes that'd get you off the overweight department. You can read about weight-loss exercises here and foods to avoid when trying to lose weight here.
It's imperative to know that being overweight isn't just a result of consuming too much calories. I read a Harvard publication on "why people are overweight" and these are some reasons why people are overweight despite exercising and maintaining a low-calorie diet.
Genetic influences
Genetic factors are inside factors that make you gain weight and stay overweight. They're in your genes. If one or both of your parents are significantly overweight and you've been overweight for much of your life, you'd hardly lose weight even when you exercise frequently and avoid too much calories because genes are probably a strong contributor to your obesity.
Also, if you have genes called "thrifty genes" your chances of losing weight and maintaining it is almost impossible. These thrifty genes are responsible for conserving and storing fat in your body over a long period of time.
Environmental influences
These factors are responsible for your weight problems on the outside. They include anything around you that drives you to eat too much and pay zero attention to exercise.
According to experts, environmental influences come into play even before you're born. You're more likely to be overweight if your mother had diabetics before you were born. The same also applies to people whose mothers smoked frequently when they were pregnant.
Also if you drank loads of soda/soft drink as a child or if were a fan of high-calorie foods, chances are you still have those habits and old habits they say die hard. This is particularly true because as a child, my mum encouraged us to eat loads of fruits and veggies, today I can't do without them. I'd choose watermelon and apples over French fries and ice cream any day!
Other causes of obesity include; drug side effects, stress, genetic disorders and illnesses that affect your weight.
Do you think these factors are responsible for your weight problems, or are you just a diehard high-calorie-food fan? Please leave your comments and suggestions below. Don't forget to checkout great weight-loss exercises here and foods to avoid when trying to lose weight here.

Yea these factors are responsible 4 obesity,so should people like this not bother to exercise N eat right or what? I mean since it won't make much impact on their weight
ReplyDeleteThis article is to encourage people whose genes are responsible for their obesity not to give up on trying to be healthy. If they have to lose significant weight and maintain it, they might need to undergo surgery, but they'll have to seek professional advise first...
DeleteSo enlightening, I've never read a piece as educative and informing on obesity as this. Its really an eye opener, but still,I'm sticking wit my workout timetable,no going back, even if its just some kgs.*winks*.Thanks IFU
ReplyDeleteThanks for this Ifu... Ok, I and my hubby started the squat exercises.. And my hubby realized he could 35 reps at a go and ends up doing about 150reps in 45mins... And in most fitness publications I have read, they always say 50squats... My question is - is he over doing it?
ReplyDeleteThanks
No dear, he isn't...your husband should be your motivation. U should try to best your husband's record...

Hi Ifu, I'm seriously overweight, I weigh about 120kg and i'm just 22yrs. Its really frustrating cos i feel like nothing is working and now I'm starting to have self esteem issues. My mum was overweight so i guess its genetic but that doesn't change the fact that i'm frustrated with the way i look and feel. I need a change and I'm so glad I stumbled on ur blog, maybe u just might be the strength and motivation i need. I've added u on bbm pls accept. Thanks
